Must LOVE Manatee County Shelter Dogs- What you need to know

Manatee County Animal Welfare is at capacity and with the recent storm more than 100 strays have come in. Many people reach out and want to help but aren’t quite sure how or where to go. There are several ways you, your family, or your business can help by donating, volunteering, social networking and more.

“Must LOVE Manatee County Shelter Dogs” is a blog series that will help combine, summarize, and inform you on resources, opportunities, events and more. Let’s get started.

Gemma has been at the shelter since November of 2023.

I’ve been a volunteer at Manatee County Animal Welfare for almost 3 years (I think it will be 4 this winter sometime), I am part of a 4 person volunteer committee that runs and maintains the For Love of Dogs- foster, adopt, and volunteer at MCAW volunteer run page (if you are a current volunteer and want to help send me a message), I’ve been a medical foster, both of my dogs were rescued or a shelter dog, I donate a percentage from my shirt sales, my company (employer) does a match, and I’m a member of this community.  I’m just one volunteer of many. I can’t be there as much as I like but I do what I can and that’ s ok.

More about Rowdy- at the shelter since January 2023

Meet Rowdy, a lovable 8-year-old pup searching for his forever home! Rowdy would need to be the only dog, so that he can spend his golden years giving you all of his love. He’s not a fan of long walks in the heat, so short and easy strolls are more his style. Most importantly, Rowdy thrives with a companion who can spend lots of quality time with him, as he battles a bit of separation anxiety. But don’t let that worry you – he’s incredibly sweet and calm when he’s with his people. Come meet Rowdy at the Palmetto Adoption Center and give this charming boy the loving home he deserves. Let’s make his golden years truly special! For adoption inquiries, please email adoptions@mymanatee.org

This first blog covers the high-level basics of “What you need to know”. I’m sure I won’t capture everything but these are the best places to start (in my opinion) and will link to the different pages, resources, partners, programs, and known events. Each blog after this one will dig a bit deeper into adoptable dogs, partners, programs, opportunities, and ways you can help. Now, while these are about dogs if you are cat person there is the volunteer run Kitty Town page of Manatee County Animal Welfare.

The best part about the series (in my opinion) are the adoptable dogs that will be spotlighted and the different ways you help them by interacting with them directly. If you want to skip ahead to all the current available pups they will be here

Doppler has been at the shelter since October of 2023.

Thank you in advance for your time, contributions, and help.

I want to thank the shelter staff, animal control officers, non-profit and rescue partners, volunteers, and fosters for all that they do. It takes a village. I also want to thank Commissioner George Kruse for showing up and speaking up on behalf of the animals who can’t speak for themselves.

Where to start? The first and most important places to look to are the shelter and the non-profit Friends of Manatee County Animal Welfare

Series spotlight puppers

Our spotlight puppers are Salty, Popeye, and Apple Pie. Salty and Popeye have been at the shelter for over a year and Apple Pie since February. See what the staff and volunteers have to say about them in their bios and albums (linked above and in their photos). I’m a big fan of all 3. If they aren’t your type please check out their over 100+ furry friends who are all waiting for their furever families to come find them.

Coming up next in the Must LOVE Manatee County Shelter Dogs series. “And just like that you helped save a life”
