Alright, Manatee County—June is Foster a Dog Month, and we’re (volunteers) calling all dog lovers, beach bums, poolside loungers, and weekend adventurers. Whether you’re ready for a full-on furry commitment or just want a doggy sleepover to test the waters (literally), Manatee County Animal Welfare (MCAW) has a whole pack of pups just waiting to tag along.
Why Foster?
Let’s be real—shelter life is no picnic. Sure, dogs are fed, safe, loved, and cared for, but it’s loud, stressful, and not exactly where you’d want to unwind. That’s where you come in. Fostering gives dogs a chance to relax, show their real personalities, and enjoy life outside the shelter grounds.
Whether it’s tagging along on your errands, joining you for a boat ride, lounging in your backyard pool, or taking a field trip to your favorite park, you’re giving a dog a taste of real-life magic—and helping them get adopted faster.
And bonus: fostering gives you the chance to figure out what kind of dog fits your life. Want a beach buddy? A couch co-pilot? A jogging pal? Foster first, and find your match.

Sammy – Sun Chaser Extraordinaire
At 10 years old, Sammy is a sunshine-loving sweetheart who lives for short strolls, grassy naps, and affection on demand. He’s the definition of chill, rides like a dream in the car, and wants a quiet, adult-only home where he’s your one and only.
Salty – Pool Boy in Training
This 4-year-old water-loving goofball is housebroken, fetch-obsessed, and bath-approved. Whether it’s chasing toys, riding shotgun, or snoozing on the couch, Salty is up for the adventure—and the snuggles after.
Popeye – Snack Enthusiast & Scenic Drive Devotee
Popeye is 5 years old and the perfect plus-one for road trips, park days, and snack stops. He’s laid-back, loves a good biscuit, and is the kind of dog that’ll make you fall in love every time he flashes that happy grin.
Charlie – The Distinguished Gentlepup
Charlie is 9, 83 lbs of pure joy, and has mastered the art of fetch and car rides. He’s housebroken, low-maintenance, and full of heart. Whether you’re tossing a ball or relaxing on the porch, Charlie’s got you.
